This is unexpected.
I'm not one of the people being auctioned, but my sister is and she doesn't seem to see it that way.

It's a bit rude for them not to ask you first, but there isn't any harm meant by it. And like Hawk says, it's for a good cause.
It could be argued that those sorts of people wouldn't make very good dates.
And counter-argued that the hidden flower smells the sweetest.
Those are very lovely words, but how true are they in practice?
I confess that I have no idea how they've gone about choosing their 'victims'. Perhaps it has to do with whose pictures they were able to take, but then perhaps they thought me easy prey. It does seem ungracious to refuse.

A quick grasp on an unexpected situation is always to be commended, and doubly so when there is danger of falling.

It does seem a strategy that would work better on you than some individuals I might name, on account of good manners alone, my friend. Maybe it's better to consider it not a hardship but an opportunity? One is rarely worse off for new friends, after all.

For myself, I've had the good fortune to gain wise teachers. That is, I believe, how knowledge is mostly exchanged here: from one to another.
That sounds... pleasantly familiar, in honesty, but I didn't think of that as 'studying.'
I understand your meaning; yet conditions here aren't well-suited for the formation of a proper institution.
I think I prefer the one-on-one style to an institution, actually.
